Barberville Pioneer Settlement keeps part of inland Volusia County’s working history in one village museum.
The museum began in 1976 in the 1919 Central School. Since then, it has brought old buildings to the grounds and set up shops for rural trades. The schoolhouse, blacksmith shop, print shop, turpentine still, and other spaces show how people learned, worked, and made things.
That inland view balances the county’s better-known beach and racing stories. Music, crafts, tools, and folk-life programs put daily work at the center, while the buildings give each skill a real setting.
Visitors may walk through the village at their own pace. A docent tour needs advance arrangements, and the day feels different when a class, craft show, or music event is underway.
