Florida driver improvement school is a citation election
Florida traffic school can be an option on some citations, but the election runs through the clerk and has timing limits.
If you want the Florida traffic-school option, start with the clerk named on the ticket. An eligible driver must tell that clerk within 30 days. Do not enroll first and assume the course will count.
Not every driver or ticket can use this choice. A holder of a commercial learner’s permit or commercial driver license cannot use it. The same is true for a ticket received while driving a commercial vehicle. Speeding 30 mph or more over the limit and other listed offenses are also left out. Even an eligible driver must wait 12 months between elections and may use the choice only eight times in life.
After the clerk accepts the choice, use a course approved by FLHSMV. Finish it and send the proof by the clerk’s due date. When the process is completed, the court generally withholds judgment, no points are added, and the civil fine falls by 18 percent. Court costs still apply.
Keep the election proof, payment receipt, course details, and final certificate together. If 30 days have passed or a suspension notice has arrived, go back to the clerk first. Check the driver record before paying for a class.
If the ticket came from a rental car or an old address, keep those papers with the citation too.
