A Florida duplicate registration replaces the paper the car must carry
Florida generally requires the registration certificate or an official copy to be carried in the vehicle, so a lost or damaged paper should be replaced.
Florida law generally calls for the registration certificate, or an official copy, to stay with the vehicle while it is in use. That small paper is worth replacing when it goes missing.
You can ask for a replacement through the MyDMV Portal or an approved office. The online route sends the new copy by mail. Keep the online receipt as proof until it arrives. An in-person office can give you the copy during the visit.
The duplicate replaces only the paper record. It does not renew an expired plate or change an address. It also does not fix a title, replace a plate or decal, or settle an insurance issue. Each of those problems has its own path.
Before ordering, check the plate number, VIN, owner’s name, and mailing address. If the online route does not fit the record, use an approved county tax collector or FLHSMV service center. Once you have the new certificate, put it back with the vehicle papers.
