A Florida home education plan is led by the parent, not the school district. The parent signs it up with the school chief in the county where the family lives. This puts the child on the right path for state school attendance law.
Send the notice within 30 days after the home plan starts. It must list each child’s full legal name, home address, and date of birth. The district must record a complete notice. It generally cannot ask for more unless the child chooses to use a district class, service, or program.
The parent keeps a home school file. It has a current log of learning, the names of books used, and samples of the child’s work. The parent chooses the file’s full content and keeps it for two years. The district may inspect it only after giving 15 days’ written notice. The parent also sends in a yearly review of the child’s progress using one of the choices in state law.
When the program ends, send the end notice and final required review within 30 days. After a move, call both counties so one file closes and the other opens at the right address.
