Florida insurance company and agent checks use two official searches
Florida uses one official search for an insurer and another for the agent or agency selling a state-regulated policy.
Before buying a policy that Florida regulates, check both the insurer and the seller. They use two different state searches.
Use OIR’s Active Company Search for the insurer’s full legal name. It also shows the kinds of insurance the company may write. Use the DFS Insurance Licensee Search for the agent or agency. When needed, it also shows whether the agent has a current link to an insurer.
Start with the legal names on the quote, not only a logo or brand. Match the results with the binder, policy page, receipt, and emails. If the names do not line up, ask for a written answer before paying.
These tools do not cover every kind of plan in the same way. Federal flood plans, self-funded job plans, surplus-lines policies, and risk-retention groups can use other paths.
A good search result is still only a first check. It does not prove the terms, claim coverage, price, or financial strength. It does show whether the main names and state approval fit the sale.
