Florida license renewal is an online-or-office check

Florida license renewal may be simple online, but document, address, name, and REAL ID details can turn it into an office visit.

Most Florida driver licenses last eight years. A driver may renew up to 18 months before the end date. That early start helps because online renewal is not offered every time.

Florida offers the online service every other renewal period. Start at MyDMV Portal to see if the record can use it. The state must verify the Social Security number. After an online renewal, the new card normally comes by mail.

Plan on an office if the last renewal was online. An office is also required when the card is not REAL ID compliant. A name change, commercial license, record mismatch, or failed online check may also send the driver there. Before the visit, read the current “What to Bring” list. Proof of identity, name, Social Security number, and home address each serves a different purpose.

Check the end date before a move, job start, flight, or long trip. Then test the official route while there is still time to gather papers. Let the current card and MyDMV result guide the plan, not an old renewal habit.
