Florida lien satisfaction keeps the title file from looking unpaid
After a Florida vehicle loan payoff, verify that the lien left the title record and decide whether the electronic title needs to be printed.
Paying off a Florida vehicle loan does not always put a paper title in the mailbox. First find out whether the lien and title are electronic or paper.
An electronic lender sends the release through Florida’s Electronic Lien and Title system. Once the lien is gone, the title stays electronic unless someone asks for a paper copy. The lender must send the lien satisfaction within 10 days after payment.
A paper lien follows a different path. It uses the signed paper title or Florida’s lien-satisfaction form. That form cannot clear an electronic lien for a lender that uses the electronic system, so the two routes should not be mixed.
Keep the payoff letter and proof that the account closed. Then check the title by VIN or title number in FLHSMV’s Motor Vehicle Information Check. The result should show whether the lien left the state record.
If a sale is coming, ask for any needed paper title early. When an electronic lien still appears after the release period, start with the lender because it must send the update. A tax collector can help with title service after the state record is ready.
