Florida driving records need the right lookback
A Florida status check, 3-year record, 7-year record, and complete driving history can serve different needs.
The free FLHSMV license check answers one question: is the license valid now? It does not show the history behind that answer. It also does not prove that an old ticket, notice, or suspension was cleared in the past.
When history matters, Florida offers 3-year, 7-year, and complete driver records. Match the record to what the employer, insurer, court, school, or other recipient asked for. A 3-year record is not a short summary of the 7-year record. A “complete” record may not reach back for life because Florida removes some old entries under its record rules.
Use the free check when the only question is current status. If someone asked for history, order that lookback instead. Before you pay, ask whether the person or office also needs a certified copy.
Privacy rules apply to driver records, especially when you request another person’s file. Use the state request form and keep the result with the paper that explains why you needed it. A web search for a name is not the same as an official driving record.
