Florida tow and storage papers can follow the car
After a Florida tow, locate the vehicle, ask for the rate sheet and itemized invoice, retrieve it promptly, and keep every notice and receipt.
A Florida tow can start as a parking problem. A long wait can turn it into a storage and lien problem.
First, find the lot and ask who ordered the tow. Ask what rate applies, which papers will release the car, and how you may pay. Get the posted rate sheet and an itemized bill. Florida law can give the operator a lien for covered tow and storage fees. It does not allow a storage fee when the car or vessel stayed there for less than six hours.
If the operator claims a lien, state law sets a notice clock that can end in a sale. In general, notice must go by certified mail within five business days after storage. It goes to the owner, the insurer, and known lienholders. Do not wait for the letter before trying to get the car, since storage fees can grow.
Save the lot name, address, date, time, signs, photos, bills, and proof of payment. Also record who ordered the tow. If the car has a loan, lease, business owner, out-of-state title, or open claim, send the papers to the other party soon.
The law has a county-court route for a claim that the tow, hold, or fee was wrong. It also has a bond route that may free the car before a sale. For either step, read the current law and contact the clerk where the car is stored.
